Now that we’re finally done with 2020, you may be asking yourself “what are the best Bowman Chrome cards for 2021?”. We’ve got ya covered.
Since the 2021 set won’t be released until spring, we won’t speculate on which cards from the newest set will make an impact this year (although we certainly could!). Alternatively, we’ll go over the Bowman Chrome cards we think will be making the biggest moves in 2021. Regardless of what year they were manufactured. However, because we know so many of you can’t wait to see what’s coming in the 2021 Bowman Chrome set, we’ll provide a small preview of some new additions along with the release date.
As far as our Best Bowman Chrome Cards 2021 list is concerned, we’ve included 4 young superstars who have one thing in common: MASSIVE UPSIDE. Combine that with relatively low risk due to their impressive (albeit small) track records and you have yourself some amazing new year investments. Let’s go!
Best Bowman Chrome Cards 2021 (Investment Strategy Included)
2017 Bowman Chrome Ronald Acuna Jr. (Buy on eBay)
When it comes to Ronald Acuna Jr. “pre-rookie” cards, it doesn’t get any better than 2017 Bowman Chrome. Actually, it doesn’t get any better than this set when it comes to Ronald Acuna Jr. cards, PERIOD. The set offers a wide range of options so there’s gonna be something that fits your budget. Regardless of how much you’re looking to lay on the line. However, if you’re serious about making some green, we strongly suggest a refractor with an autograph. Like the Green Shimmer above!
Investment Strategy
Short
While the average wasn’t quite up to par last season, the power certainly was as Acuna cracked 14 home runs in just 160 ABs. Given a full season of plate appearances in 2021 and we fully expect that average to come back up while the power to remains consistently jaw-dropping. 9.5/10
Medium
It’s only a matter of time before Acuna wins an MVP and we wouldn’t be surprised if it happens within the next few years. More than once perhaps. Plus Atlanta looks like they will be an NL powerhouse throughout the early part of the decade. We wouldn’t be shocked to see a World Series ring in Acuna’s future either. 10/10
Long
Compare the most valuable Ronald Acuna Jr. cards from this set to that of Mike Trout’s most valuable Bowman Chrome rookie cards. There’s only a few million separating the two. If Acuna becomes the next Trout as many seem to think, this could be the investment of a lifetime. 10/10
2016 Bowman Chrome Juan Soto (Buy on eBay)
Now when it comes to young superstars just close your eyes and take your pick between Acuna and Soto. And just like Acuna, Soto’s best card is his Bowman Chrome prospect card from 2016. Base cards with an autograph start somewhere around $1,500. Add a refractor on top of it and you’ll need to open the wallet even further. You will be glad you did so.
Investment Strategy
Short
Soto notched a 2o20 season that should have landed way higher than 5th in MVP votes. Probably something to do with the National’s lackluster team performance. We expect no speed bumps ahead in 2021. 9.5/10
Medium
Just as we said about Acuna, it’s only a matter of time before Soto grabs an MVP. Even if he doesn’t land one in the mid-term time frame you can be certain Soto’s individual accolades will pile sky high. We’re a little worried about the team success though. 9.5/10.
Long
If Acuna doesn’t become the next Mike Trout then it has to be Soto, right? Sounds like good logic to us! Whenever a player has such a pedigree at such a young age you can only imagine what his stat line will look like as he nears retirement. Plenty of top 5 of all time lists incoming. 10/10
2016 Bowman Chrome Fernando Tatis Jr. (Buy on eBay)
Sticking with the 2016 Bowman Chrome set we move to the other budding superstar in the box. Even the base card with no autograph or refractor will set you back at least $500 if it’s in the right condition. So just like with Acuna and Soto, be prepared to go big. We personally like the Purple Refractor shown above. A print run of 250 makes it rare. But not so rare that you won’t be able to find one or shell out $25,000 to buy it once you do.
Investment Strategy
Short
If not for the late-season collapse Tatis may have taken home the MVP. As you can see those 3 letters seem to be a trend with the players on our list. Fortunately for Fernando, he’s more than capable of getting it right this year. We’re slightly worried about that slump but can’t help but think he’ll brush it off and light the league on fire once again. 9/10
Medium
Just like Acuna in Atlanta, Tatis Jr. finds himself sitting pretty on a dangerous young ball club. Plenty of individual and team success seems certain in the following years. 9.5/10
Long
While Tatis Jr. is less proven than the first two players on the list, he certainly has the potential. Wait for another season of elite play ball before you start thinking this far ahead. 8/10
2018 Bowman Chrome Yordan Alvarez (Buy on eBay)
A late start and an untimely injury may have created a perfect buying opportunity in case you missed the boat last season. If you didn’t we hope you held! At any rate, you can see the opportunity we speak of in the price of Alvarez compared to other cards on the list. While you’ll have to pay around $1,500 for the base autograph version of the Soto card above, the same thing for Alvarez will only cost you a third of that price. And that’s for a PSA 10 GEM MINT! What are you waiting for?
Investment Strategy
Short
If not for the injury we may have rounded out the list with a fourth 2020 MVP contender. He’ll just have to wait until 2021 to get in on the action. Once at full health, we expect Alvarez to be back as one of the most feared bats in baseball. Just make sure you buy your card while everyone’s still sleeping! 10/10
Medium
As we said earlier Alvarez may be the best hitter on this list. Don’t be surprised for him, to live up to the bold claim in 2021 and beyond. While he doesn’t have all of the other tools, Yordan’s bat should ALWAYS play. 9.5/10
Long
Just like with Tatis Jr., we’d like to see another season of Yordan Alvarez before getting ahead of ourselves. Most importantly, a healthy one. Once you see what he’s capable of across an entire year of at-bats you should be more than comfortable thinking further down the road. 7/10

April 14th, 2021 is when you can expect Bowman Chrome 2021 to hit the shelves.
