Find your Spencer Torkelson rookie card bargain on eBay
Now that he’s officially a professional baseball player, you’re sure to see plenty of attention being drawn to the Spencer Torkelson rookie card market. The fact that he landed in the top 5 of MLB’s prospect rankings before ever picking up a wooden bat doesn’t hurt either. The question is, why all the hype?
In just over 2 seasons at Arizona State Torkelson built a resume that was impressive, to say the least. With a college career of at-bats that amounted to just short of a regular MLB season’s worth (498 total), he managed to rank 54 home runs while maintaining a .337 average. By the way, Torkelson also slugged .729, reached base at a .463 clip, and produced a college career OPS of 1.192. So now we understand what all the commotion is about.
If Torkelson goes on to put up similar numbers in Detriot’s farm system in 2021, you’ll be INCREDIBLY thankful you had the foresight to pick up one of the following “rookie cards”.
Question of the Day – Which top 10 MLB prospect will make a bigger impact in the league: Spencer Torkelson or Jarred Kelenic?
Spencer Torkelson Rookie Card Buyer’s Guide
2020 Bowman Chrome Draft (Buy on eBay)
Without a doubt, Bowman Chrome Draft is THE set for MLB prospect cards when it comes to value. Not even close really. The AUTO Gold Refractor /10 above happens to be one of the most valuable options you’ll find in the set and will run you back not hundreds, but thousands if you want it in your collection. In addition to that, there are many other Refractor AUTO combos that you can sink big money into. And with the Bowman Chrome name behind them, rest assured they’re all terrific options. However, if you’re looking to only spend a few hundred we recommend going with the regular autograph base card.
2020 Panini Prizm Draft (Buy on eBay)
Now if you were looking for an Immanuel Quickley rookie card, this would be the set to look at. However, Panini doesn’t carry the same weight when it comes to baseball. Even so, there’s nothing wrong with adding a Panini to your baseball card collection every once in a while. Especially that Color Blast insert shown above. It’s one of the most sought after inserts made by Panini regardless of the sport. Price point: less than $500. If you’re looking to invest more, look for one of the less common Prizms such as the Green Ice or Gold.
2020 Bowman’s Best (Buy on eBay)
The Power Producers insert shown above is a fairly affordable option when it comes to some of the other Spencer Torkelson rookie card inserts out there (less than $200 ungraded). However, if you’re looking to spend a little more go out and grab something like the /25 Atomic Refractor for around $500. An amazing option if you want the comfort of the Bowman name but don’t want to shell out the kind of dough it’ll take to put a /25 refractor from the Chrome set in your collection.
2020 Panini Contenders (Buy on eBay)
While Panini may not rival Bowman in value, it certainly holds its own when it comes to the amount of baseball prospect options it offers. For instance, Panini Contenders offers a wide variety of low to moderate value Spencer Torkelson rookie cards with on-card autographs. The Draft Ticket above is a great option for less than $100. Meanwhile, you can spend a few hundred more and pick up the /5 version of the card if you want something less common.
2020 Leaf Metal Draft (Buy on eBay)
We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again, there’s no value play like Leaf Metal Draft. For example, you can buy the ultra-rare Spencer Torkelson rookie card above for less than $400. Try finding that from a card with an autograph and print run of 5 made by Bowman Chrome! Not gonna happen. In addition to the autograph, the set also offers various parallels and even a retro card. Can’t beat this set if you’re only looking to test the waters with a low-value investment.

Spencer Torkelson Rookie Card Investment Strategy
Short (1 year or less)
With the way he handled college pitching, we’re not worried about whether or not he’ll handle the lower minor leagues. The glowing scouting reports don’t hurt anything either. Expect to see a rapid ascent through A-Ball with some impressive numbers to back it up. 9.5/10
Medium (1 year to MLB debut)
This is the time frame we’re likely looking at for the big MLB debut. If Torkelson beats up minor league pitching at each stop on his journey to his first big league appearance these cards will continue to rise. Plenty of chances to take profits along the way. 9.5/10
Long (MLB Debut and after)
We’re very comfortable with the idea of Torkelson lighting up the minors. BUT, the big leagues are a completely different story. We’re always hesitant to speculate on whether or not a top prospect will be the same player once they arrive in Major League Baseball. Especially about one who hasn’t even taken a swing in the minors. Even if he was the first overall pick in the draft. Think short or medium-term for now. 3/10
